Catching Fish
Luke 5:1-10
Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!”
Our true story from the Bible is about someone AMAZING! We begin with Jesus on the shore of a lake, teaching a crowd of people.
There were SO many people that Jesus didn’t have any room. Jesus looked out on the water and what do you think He saw? Boats! Two boats actually. One belonged to a fisherman named Peter. Jesus hopped in Peter’s boat and taught the people from there.
When Jesus was done, He told Peter that they should go fishing! But Peter had already tried fishing all night long. And guess what? After a whole night of fishing, Peter hadn’t caught one single fish.
But because Jesus told him to, Peter said he would try again. So, they sailed back into the water, and they got ready to let down their nets.
And down the nets went, deep, deep, deep in the water. And they waited to see if they’d catch any fish.
But Peter didn’t catch just three or four or five fish. Peter caught LOTS of fish! Friends, there were SO many fish that they filled Peter’s BOAT! They called for another boat to help, and they filled THAT boat with fish, too!
And those boats were SO full of fish that they started to sink! WOW! Peter was amazed. Earlier, Peter couldn’t catch anything, and now there were two boats FULL of fish!
Yes! Because Jesus did something AMAZING that only He could do! Jesus is amazing.
Bible Paraphrase: Everyone who heard him was amazed. —Luke 2:47, NIV

Family Devotional
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.—Luke 5:4-7
In our Bible story, we heard about a miracle Jesus did. Jesus made Peter catch so many fish that they made two boats begin to sink! Wow! Jesus is amazing!
