Jesus Loves Everyone

The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John)

Our true story comes from parts of the Bible called the Gospel of Matthew, the Gospel of Mark, the Gospel of Luke, and the Gospel of John. The word gospel means “good news!”

Our true story is about the first twelve people who followed Jesus. They were called “disciples.”

Like Peter and Andrew.

Peter and Andrew were fishermen out trying to catch fish when Jesus said, “Come follow me!” And they did!

James and his brother John were fishermen, too. James and John were out with their dad when Jesus said, “Come follow me!” And they did.

In the next town, Jesus found Philip.

Then Philip found his friend, Nathanael, and brought him to see Jesus.

Nathanael followed Jesus, too!

Then there was Matthew. Matthew had a different job. He was a tax collector. Matthew followed Jesus, too!

Then there was Thomas, and James, and Thaddeus, and Simon, and Judas. Whew! We did it! These were Jesus’ twelve disciples.

All different people from different places, with different jobs, and different families, but Jesus chose them all to follow Him.

Now, why do you think Jesus chose different people? Because Jesus loves everyone! He does! And Jesus wants us to love everyone, too. Jesus wants us to love everyone, everywhere!

Bible Paraphrase: A friend loves at all times. —Proverbs 17:17, NIV

Text Truth: I can love everyone like Jesus.

Family Devotional

Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons. These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter), James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”), Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
—Mark 3:13-19

In our Bible story, we heard about the first people who followed Jesus. They were called “the disciples.” The disciples had different jobs and lived in different places because Jesus loves everyone. And the Bible verse we have been learning will help us remember that Jesus loves everyone.

A friend loves at all times. —Proverbs 17:17, NIV

Jesus loves everyone. So, with your family make a list of people you can love. And it can be anyone because when we love like Jesus, we love EVERYONE! And be sure to write the name of each family member next to the name of the person they say.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to love (say each family member’s name) and everyone in the whole, wide world! We want to love everyone like Jesus. Help us love . . . (read the list your family made) and all of the people in the world who aren’t on our list. You’re the best, God. In Jesus’ name. amen.”
