Paul Becomes a Believer

Acts 9:1-9

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Acts. That name is short for “the Acts of the Apostles.” An apostle is someone who is sent to teach others about Jesus.

We begin with a man name Paul. Paul was not a friend of Jesus or anyone who were friends with Jesus. Paul would look for Jesus’ friends and take them to jail! Oh, no! That’s definitely not a good friend!

But one day, that all changed. Paul was walking down a road, to a city called Damascus, and suddenly there was a bright light! The light was SO bright that Paul stopped and fell to his knees.

Then Paul heard a voice ask, “Paul, why don’t you want to be my friend?” Paul didn’t know who was talking to him, so he asked, “Who are you?” Who do you think was talking to Paul? It was Jesus! Jesus was talking to Paul. Jesus told Paul to go into the city and wait to be told what to do.

When Paul stood up and opened his eyes, he couldn’t see anything. The people who were with Paul had to help him go to the city.

When Paul got to the city, he did what Jesus said, and he waited to be told what to do. When Paul met Jesus, Paul’s life changed forever because then Paul knew that Jesus is alive!

And WE know that Jesus is alive, too, and that Jesus wants to be our friend forever! That’s why when someone asks you, “Who wants to be your friend forever?”, you can say, “Jesus wants to be my friend forever!”

Bible Verse: Jesus said, “Come follow me.”  Matthew 4:19, NCV

Text Truth: Jesus wants to be my friend forever.

Family Devotional

“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.

“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
—Acts 9:5-6

In our Bible story, Paul was going down a road, then a bright light made him stop! When Paul stopped, Jesus talked to him and told him to go to a city and wait. Why did Jesus stop Paul and talk to him? Because Jesus wanted to be Paul’s friend forever. And Jesus wants to be your friend forever. We are learning that Jesus wants us to follow Him and be His friend forever.

Jesus said, “Come follow me.”  —Matthew 4:19, NCV

Yes, Jesus wants us to follow Him, and He wants to be our friend forever. So, with your family, take a piece of paper and make a list of your friends. Have each family member write down the name of one their friends.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, thank You for giving us so many wonderful friends. Thank You for (read the list your family made). And most of all, thank You for sending Jesus to be our friend forever. Jesus is the best friend we will ever have! We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
