Land Animals and People
Genesis 1:24–2:3
Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.”
We have been learning that God made everything.
On day one, God made light and dark.
On day two, God made the sky above the water.
On day three, God made the land, plants, and seas.
On day four, God made the sun, moon, and stars.
And on day five, God made sea animals and birds! The earth was full of so many beautiful, wonderful things! God saw everything He had made, and it was GOOD!
Do you think God was finished, yet? No way! God made even more. On day six, God said, “Let the land produce every kind of animal.” WOW! Do you know what that means? It means God made SO many different and wonderful animals to live on the land!
Can you name an animal God made that says “Meow”? Yes, God made cats! Cats have such soft fur.
Okay, let’s try one more. Can you name an animal God made that says “Naaaay”? Yes, God made horses!
Wow! God made cats, horses, elephants, giraffes, and lions, too. But even after making ALL these wonderful animals, God STILL was not finished. God wanted to make the very most important thing in all creation. Do you know what it is?
God made PEOPLE! God made the very first man. His name was Adam. And God made the very first woman. Her name was Eve. People are the most special thing God made because God made people to know Him!
God made every person so special. Can you point to your eyes? God made people with blue eyes and brown eyes and green eyes, too. So many different, beautiful colors.
Can you touch your head? God made people with all kinds of hair—straight, curly, short, long, and no hair at all!
And God made people who are good at all kinds of different things. Like running fast. Or making yummy food. Or telling awesome stories. God made people. When God made people on day six, the whole world was complete! God looked at all He had made, and this time God said it was VERY good.
God made the whole world. Then on day seven, what do you think God did? God rested from all His work! Let’s all take a deep breath and remember all the things that God made!
On day one, God made light and dark. On day two, God made the sky above the water. On day three, God made the land, plants, and seas. On day four, God made the sun, moon, and stars. On day five, God made the fish and birds! On day six, God made animals and people! And on day seven, God rested from His work. WOW! Only God could make all these wonderful, amazing things! One more time, who made everything? God made everything!

Family Devotional
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
—Genesis 1:31-2:3
In our Bible story, God finished all His work. He had made the whole world and everything in it: light and dark; sky and water; land, plants, and sea; sun, moon, and stars; birds and sea animals; land animals and people! God made everything!
God saw everything he had made. And it was very good. —Genesis 1:31, NIrV
With your family, take a piece of paper and make a list of your favorite things that God made. There’s a lot to choose from! It can be anything in the whole, wide world because God made everything!
Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, You are SO awesome! You made the whole world and everything in it! And it is all so very good! Thank You for making (read the list your family made). These are some of our favorite things that You made. Help us stop, rest, and look at the wonderful world You made for us to live in. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
