Sea Animals and Birds

Genesis 1:20-23

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.”

We have been learning that God made everything.

On day one, God made light and dark.

Then on day two, God made a place for the water below and created the sky above.

On day three, God made the land, plants, and seas.

On day four, God made the sun, moon, and stars! God looked at everything He had made and saw that it was good.

Wow! God had already made so many creative, wonderful, beautiful things! But God wasn’t done yet! God made even more. On day five, God said, “Let the water be filled with lots and lots of sea animals!”

Let’s think. What kind of animals live in the water? God made sea turtles and seahorses, whales, and sharks.

And God made SO many kinds of fish. God made BIG fish! And God made little bitty fish. God made fish in all colors and shapes! On day five, God filled the sea with lots and lots of sea animals.

And that day, God made something to fill the sky, too. Do you know what animal God made to fly in the sky? Yes! On day five, God made birds!

God made SO many beautiful birds! God made ALL different kinds of birds in all different colors! God made bluebirds that are blue, flamingos that are pink, and parrots that have lots of colors.

WOW! God made so many awesome fish to swim in the sea and beautiful birds to fly in the sky. When God made all the fish and birds, God saw that it was good!

On day five, God made fish and birds! Only God can do that. God is so creative and powerful. God made everything.

Bible Paraphrase: God saw everything he had made. And it was very good. Genesis 1:31, NIrV

Text Truth: On day five, God made the sea animals and birds.

Family Devotional

And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
—Genesis 1:20-21

In our Bible story, we learned that God made all of the fish and birds! Flamingos and parrots, rainbowfish and pufferfish—God made them all because God made everything!

God saw everything he had made. And it was very good. —Genesis 1:31, NIrV

Our Bible story tells us that God made all of the fish and birds. So, with your family, write down a fish or bird that God made. If you like, you may draw a picture of a fish or bird. And there are so many fish and birds from which to choose. Because God made all of them!

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, thank You for making so many different kinds of fish and birds for us to enjoy and learn about. You are so good and creative! No one can do what You do, God. We love You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
