David Praises God

2 Samuel 6:12-15; Psalm 149:1-5

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Second Samuel (2 Samuel). The man Samuel loved God and told the people what God wanted them to know. Our true story also comes from a part of the Bible called Psalms. The word psalm means holy song (or special song).

We begin with a man named David. David was King of Israel, and he loved God. David liked showing God that he was thankful. How do you think David thanked God?

He danced! David danced because he was SO thankful to God.

What else did David do to say thank you to God? Sing! David sang and used music to thank God. David danced and used music to tell God thank you. And so can we! We can thank God anytime and anywhere.

We can thank God in the evening when we go to bed.

We can thank God in the morning when we wake up.

We can thank God when we’re driving in the car.

We can thank God when we go to the park.

I can thank God all the time.

We can thank God in so many different ways, anytime, and anywhere. We can thank God ALL the time. Remember: Who can you thank for everything? Say, “I can thank God for everything!”

Bible Paraphrase: Always give thanks to God. Ephesians —5:20, NIrV

Text Truth: I can thank God all the time.

Family Devotional

Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.
—2 Samuel 6:14-15

In our Bible story, King David loved God so much that he praised God in front of the entire city! King David knew that God loves us, and we can thank God for everything! Who can you thank for everything? Say, “I can thank God for everything!”

Always give thanks to God. Ephesians —5:20, NIrV

In our Bible story, we learned that we can praise and thank God all the time! That means we can praise and thank God everywhere we go! So, with your family, get a piece of paper and make a list of places where you can praise and thank God. Have each family member list a place they can praise and thank God. And make sure to write the family member’s name next to the place they list.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, I’m so thankful we can praise and thank You all the time. That means we can praise and thank You when we’re (read the places your family listed) and everywhere we go! You are so awesome, God! Thank You for loving us. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
