Jesus Teaches a Crowd

Mark 6:30-34

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Mark. Mark loved Jesus and told people about Him so that they could know Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!”

We begin on a beach. Jesus and His friends, the disciples, had been working very hard so they went to a beach so they could rest and pray.

While they were there, people came from far away to see Jesus. Some people were so excited to see Jesus they even RAN to get there.

The people were so excited to see Jesus! More and more people came to see Jesus. When Jesus saw the people, He loved them and wanted to help them. So, Jesus began teaching them.

The people were so happy to be with Jesus that they stayed for a long time. They stayed to listen to Jesus teach important things all through the day and into the night. People went to see Jesus and He taught them important things.

Jesus teaches YOU important things too. When we read the Bible, we can learn so many important things from Jesus. Jesus wants to be our friend forever, and Jesus teaches us important things. So, when someone asks, “Who teaches you important things?” you can say, “Jesus teaches me important things!”

Bible Paraphrase: The people were amazed at his teaching. —Matthew 7:28, NCV

Text Truth: People came to hear Jesus because He teaches important things.

Family Devotional

The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place. But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.
—Mark 6:30-34

In our Bible story, lots and lots of people went to hear Jesus teach, because they knew Jesus teaches important things. When Jesus saw the people coming, He loved them and began teaching them. When the people heard Jesus, they were amazed at His teaching!

The people were amazed at his teaching. —Matthew 7:28, NCV

In our Bible story, we learned that Jesus teaches us important things. So, with your family, take a piece of paper and make a list of some places where you can hear the important things Jesus teaches. Some examples include your church and Sunday school, your Bible, your parent's Bible, and a Bible storybook. Have each member of your family write down a place. And be sure to write down each family member's name next to the place they write down.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to teach us important things, like how to love and be kind and forgive one another. Help us to learn more by going to places like (read through the list your family made). We want to hear all of the important things Jesus teaches us! We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
