Jesus and the Children

Luke 18:15-16

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!”

Our true story is about some kids who wanted to meet someone very special. We begin with Jesus. We know that Jesus is very special. Jesus is God’s Son, and He came to do AMAZING things.

Jesus and His friends, the disciples, did lots of important work. They taught people about God, and they helped people. Wherever they went, there was always a crowd of people who wanted to learn things from Jesus and get help from Jesus. EVERYONE wanted to be near Jesus.

One day when Jesus was teaching, many, many people were around Him wanting to meet Him and get close to Him.

There were lots of adults. Moms and dads and aunts and uncles. There were farmers and doctors and carpenters and fishermen. And there were children! The children knew Jesus was special and they wanted to see Jesus, too!

But Jesus’ disciples stopped . . . Maybe the disciples thought Jesus was too busy to talk to the children. Maybe the disciples thought Jesus was too important to talk to the children.
 away.

The disciples told the children to stop and go away. But Jesus was kind and loving to the children. He called them to Him and said: “Let the little children come to me!”

So they did! Jesus opened His arms wide and the children came. Jesus told the crowd to never stop children from coming to see Him because children are VERY important to Him.

YOU are important to Jesus. Jesus loves you and wants to be your friend forever. So, when someone asks you, “Who does Jesus love?” You can say, “Jesus loves everyone!”

Bible Paraphrase: Be kind and loving to each other. —Ephesians 4:32, NCV

Text Truth: Jesus loves me.

Family Devotional

People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
—Luke 18:15-16

In our Bible Story, we learned that Jesus wants all children to be His friend forever because Jesus loves everyone. That means Jesus loves you and and me. And now Jesus wants us to love everyone the way Jesus loves everyone!

Be kind and loving to each other. —Ephesians 4:32, NCV

With your family, take a piece of paper and write down the name of every member of your family. Then, have each member of your family draw a heart after their name. And make sure they understand that they are drawing a heart after their name because Jesus loves them.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to love (read each family member’s name). Please help (say each family member’s name) love others the way you love them. We love You, God, and we pray these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
