God Made Me in His Image

Genesis 1:26-27; Psalm 28:7, 104:24, 121:2; Proverbs 2:6; Acts 17:24

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.” Our true also story comes from a part of the Bible called Psalms. The word psalm means holy song or special song. Our true also story comes from a part of the Bible called Proverbs. A proverb is a wise truth.

We begin with the One who MADE all things. That’s right! God! God made so many things. God made the whole world. God made EVERYTHING . . . the bright stars, the moon.

And guess what else God made? God made you and God made me! God made ALL people, and people are the most special thing God made because God made us to be like Him.

One way God made us like Him is we are creative. We are creative when we paint a picture. Or when we dance. Or sing a song. Or when we cook something yummy to eat.

One way God made us like Him is we can think. There are so many things we can think about! Like . . . how does the sun know when to shine? How does a flower grow? How does a bee know how to make honey? We think about things all the time.

Another way God made us like Him is we can help. When we see someone fall on their bicycle, we can go and help them up. When we see a friend cleaning up their toys, we can go and help them. When we see someone who is sad, we can help them by sharing a smile and being a good friend.

Isn’t that amazing? God made us to be like Him—to be creative, to think, and to help! God made us all wonderful. So, when anyone asks you, “Who made you wonderful?” Say, “God made me wonderful!”

Bible Verse: How you made me is amazing and wonderful. Psalm 139:14, NIrV

Text Truth: God made me to create, think, and help.

Family Devotional

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
—Genesis 1:27

In our Bible Story, we learned that God made people in His image. That’s why people think about things and are creative and want to help others. It’s also why people are so wonderful because God made us wonderful! God made you wonderful, and God made me wonderful. Who made you wonderful? Say, “God made me wonderful!”

How you made me is amazing and wonderful. —Psalm 139:14, NIrV

With your family, take a piece of paper and make a list of ways you can help others, because God is a helper, and you are made in God’s image. And remember to write the name of each family member next to the “way” they write down.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, thank You for making (say each family member’s name) in Your image to be creative, to think about things, and to help others. We are wonderful because You made us! Please help us do things, like (read the list your family made). We love You, God. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
