Jesus Is the Light

John 1:4-5, 8:12, 9:5

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus. And the word “Gospel” means “good news!”

We begin with the whole world. God made the whole world and everything in it. Then God made the people, and God gave a gift for all people.

God sent someone really special. We celebrate this special person being born on Christmas. Do you know who it is? Yes, it’s Jesus! God sent Jesus to be the Light of the World.

Now, Jesus is not a light like a flashlight. Jesus is a light who helps us see how amazing God is.

When Jesus helped people, He was a bright light showing us how God helps people. When Jesus forgave people, He was a bright light showing us how God forgives people.

When Jesus loved people, He was a bright light showing us how God loves people and how we can love people too.

If our friend needs help learning to play a game, we can love like Jesus and help them.

If our brother or sister knocks down our block tower, we can love like Jesus and forgive them.

If our friend is sad, we can love like Jesus and ask them if they would like a hug.

I’m so glad God sent Jesus to be the Light of the World and show us how to love others. We can all love like Jesus. So, when someone asks you, “Who can love like Jesus?” You can say, “I can love like Jesus!”

Bible Verse: You are the light of the world—Matthew 5:14, NIrV

Text Truth: Jesus is the Light of the World.

Family Devotional

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
—John 1:4-5

In our Bible Story, we learned that God sent Jesus to be the Light of the World and show us how to love others. We can all love like Jesus. Can you love like Jesus? Yes! That means not just you and me, but EVERYONE in the WORLD can love like Jesus! So, when anyone asks you, “Who can love like Jesus?” You can say, “I can love like Jesus!”

You are the light of the world. —Matthew 5:14, NIrV

With your family, get a piece of paper and make a list of people that show you how to love. Have each family member write down the name of someone shows them how to love. And be sure to write that family member’s name next to the name of the person they write down.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to be the Light of the World to show everyone in the world how to love like Him. Thank you for the people who are bright lights to us like (read the list your family made). Thank You for sending Jesus to be the Light Please help (say each family member’s name) love like Jesus. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
