Jesus Heals Ten Men
Luke 17:11-16
Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!”
We begin with Jesus and His friends, the disciples. One day, they were walking down a road.
As Jesus and His disciples were walking into a village, they heard some men shouting. When Jesus looked, He saw ten men, and they were very sick. Have you even been sick? Being sick is not fun.
These ten men were so sick that they had boo-boos on their skin. These boo-boos hurt, and they were boo-boos that only Jesus could make go away.
The other people in the village did not want to get boo-boos on their skin, so the sick people had to live far away from all the other people—even away from their families and friends! It was very sad. That’s why the men started shouting when they saw Jesus. They wanted to ask Jesus for help!
When Jesus saw the men, Jesus told them to go and let the priests look at their skin. The men quickly did what Jesus told them to do. But, while the men were on their way to see the priests, they looked at their skin and saw that ALL their boo-boos were gone! Wow! The ten men were all better!
One man was so excited that he quickly went back to Jesus. The whole way back to Jesus, the man was so excited that he was praising God with a loud voice. The man was so excited! He continued praising God loudly for everyone to hear! Yay, God! Thank You, Jesus!
What do you think Jesus did when He heard the man shouting and praising God because he was so excited? Jesus waited for him and talked with him.
Jesus was a good friend to the man when he was excited because Jesus is always a good friend! So, when anyone asks you, “Who is always a good friend?” You can tell them, “Jesus is always a good friend!”
Bible Verse: A friend loves you all the time. —Proverbs 17:17, NCV
Text Truth: Jesus is a good friend when I am excited.

Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”
When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.
One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.
—Luke 17:11-16
In our Bible Story, ten men asked Jesus for help. Why did the men need Jesus to help them? The men had boo-boos all over their skin. What did Jesus do? Jesus made their boo-boos all better! One of the men was so excited that he ran back to tell Jesus: “Thank You!” Jesus was a good friend to the men when they were sad and had boo-boos on their skin, and Jesus was a good friend when one of the men was so excited that he ran back to tell Jesus: “Thank You!” Wow! Jesus is always a good friend! So, when anyone asks you, “Who is always a good friend?” You can tell them, “Jesus is always a good friend!”
A friend loves you all the time. —Proverbs 17:17, NCV
With your family, take a piece of paper and make a list of things that make you feel excited. You may get excited about things like opening presents, or when your dog is happy to see you, or when you get to spend your time with your friends. Have each member of your family write down something that makes them feel excited. And make sure they write their name down next to the thing they write on the paper.
Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, thank You for all of the things that make us feel excited, like (read the list your family made) . . . and Jesus! Yes, knowing that Jesus is always a good friend is the most exciting thing ever! We love You, God! In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
