God's Gift of Love

Ephesians 2:8-9

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Letter to the Ephesians, which is a letter written to early Christians.

Sometimes people think they have to do lots of things to make God love them. But the Bible says something wonderful—God already loves us! He gives us His love as a gift.

The Bible says that God saves us by His grace. That means God is kind to us even when we don’t deserve it. God gave us Jesus, and when we believe in Jesus, we become part of God’s family.

We don’t have to work hard to earn God’s love. We don’t have to be the best or the smartest or the strongest. God says, “Here is My gift for you!” and we can say, “Thank You, God!”

We believe in Jesus. We trust Him. And we remember that everything good we have from God is a gift.

God gives us His love as a special gift. We don’t have to earn it—He gives it because He loves us! When we believe in Jesus, we are part of God’s family, and we can say, “Thank You, God!”

Dear God,

Thank You for loving us so much. Thank You for giving us Jesus as a gift. Help us to believe in Him and follow Him every day. We didn’t earn Your love, but You gave it anyway—and we are so thankful! We love You, God.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Bible Verse: But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. — Romans 5:8, BSB

Paraphrase: God shows His love for us.

Activities

These activities help preschoolers engage with the story through movement, crafts, music, and storytelling, making the lesson fun and memorable.

1. Gift Box Surprise

Objective: Help children understand that God’s love is a free gift.

Materials: Small box, tissue paper, heart cutouts with “God loves you” written on them.

Activity:

Let each child take a turn opening the “gift box” to find a heart inside. Talk about how we don’t earn God’s love—He gives it to us as a gift. Let children take the heart home.

Say: “You didn’t have to do anything to get this heart—just like we don’t have to earn God’s love!”

2. Faith Steps Obstacle Path

Objective: Show that we walk by faith, not by earning our way.

Materials: Tape to mark a simple path, pillows or mats as stepping stones.

Activity:

Create a short path across the room. Tell children to walk carefully along the steps as you encourage them with, “God helps you take each step!” or “You are walking in faith!”

Say: “We believe in Jesus and walk with Him every day. That’s what faith means!”

3. Thank You Art

Objective: Express thanks for God's gift of grace.

Materials: Paper, crayons, stickers, optional pre-printed verse.

Activity:

Let children draw a big gift box and decorate it. Help them write or paste the words: “Thank You, God, for Your gift!” Encourage them to draw something they’re thankful for inside the box.

Say: “God gave us the best gift—His love and Jesus!”

4. God’s Gift Song (Music Activity)

Objective: Celebrate that we are saved by grace, not by works.

Materials: Rhythm instruments or clapping hands.

Activity:

Sing to the tune of “The Farmer in the Dell”:

“God gave a gift to me,
God gave a gift to me,
        I didn’t earn it, I didn’t buy it,
God gave a gift to me!”

Let children clap or use instruments while singing.

Say: “God’s gift is His love. We just say ‘Thank You, God!’”
