1 Kings 17:1-16 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called First Kings (1 Kings). It is the first of two books in the Bible that tell us about the kings of Israel. There was a man named Elijah, and he was God’s helper. One day, God told Elijah that there would be no rain for a long time. Without rain, the plants couldn’t grow, and soon there was no food. But God promised to take care of Elijah. At first, God sent Elijah to a little stream, where he could drink fresh water. Every morning and evening, birds called ravens brought him bread and meat. God was taking care of him, just like He promised. After a while, the stream dried up because there was no rain. Then God told Elijah, “Go to a town called Zarephath. There is a woman there who will give you food.” So Elijah obeyed. When he came to the town gate, he saw a woman picking up sticks. Elijah said, “Please bring me some water and a little bread.” The woman looked very sad. She said, “I only have a handful of flour and a li...

Joshua 2:1-24; Joshua 6:24-25 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Joshua. Joshua was a great leader of God’s people, with God’s help. God’s people were getting ready to go into the new land that He had promised them. Their leader was Joshua. He sent two men to look at the big city of Jericho. The men were called spies, and they went quietly into the city to see what it was like. The spies came to the house of a woman named Rahab. She was kind to them and gave them a place to stay. But soon, the king of Jericho heard that spies from Israel were in the city. He sent soldiers to look for them! Rahab hid the spies on her roof under bundles of tall plants so the soldiers would not find them. When the king’s men came to her house, she told them the men had already gone. The soldiers hurried away, and the spies were safe. Then Rahab went up to the roof and said to the spies, “I know that your God is the true God. I have heard how He helped your people cross the Red Sea and wi...

Exodus 13:17–18; Exodus 14 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Exodus. The word “exodus” means to leave or go away from. After many years, God’s people were finally free from Egypt! Moses led them out, just as God had told him. The people were very happy as they walked together, following Moses through the wilderness. God showed them the way—He went before them in a tall cloud during the day and in a bright fire at night. But soon they came to a big problem. In front of them was a huge sea called the Red Sea, and behind them came Pharaoh’s army in their fast chariots! The people were afraid. They said, “What will we do? We can’t cross the sea!” Moses told them, “Don’t be afraid. God will help us!” Then God said to Moses, “Lift up your staff over the water.” Moses obeyed. He lifted his staff high—and something amazing happened! The wind began to blow. The water started to move. The sea opened up, and the water stood tall like two walls—one on each side. Right through th...

Exodus 3:1-18; Exodus 6:11; Psalm 118:7 Our true Bible story comes from a part, of the Bible called Exodus. The word “exodus” means to leave or go away from. Our true story also comes from a part of the Bible called Psalms. The word psalm means holy song or special song. A long time ago, a man named Moses lived in a land called Midian. He took care of sheep for his father-in-law, Jethro. Every day, Moses led the sheep to find green grass and cool water. One day, he led them to a mountain called Mount Horeb. As Moses watched his sheep, he saw something amazing—a bush was on fire, but it didn’t burn up! The flames were bright, but the bush stayed whole. Moses said, “I will go see this strange thing.” When he came closer, he heard a voice calling his name: “Moses! Moses!” Moses said, “Here I am.” The voice said, “Do not come any closer. Take off your sandals, because you are standing on holy ground.” Moses knew it was God speaking to him! God said, “I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jac...

Exodus 2:4-10; 15:20-21; Micah 6:4 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Exodus. The word “exodus” means to leave or go away from. Our true story also comes from a part of the Bible called Micah. Micah loved God and told people what God wanted them to know. A long time ago, God’s people lived in a place called Egypt. The king of Egypt, called Pharaoh, was not kind to them. He made the people work very hard. One day, Pharaoh made a very sad rule. He said that all baby boys born to the Israelites must be thrown into the river. But one mother loved her baby boy very much. She wanted to keep him safe. She hid him at home for as long as she could. When the baby grew too big to hide, she made a little basket from tall grass. She covered it with tar so it would float on the water. Then she gently placed her baby in the basket and set it in the river. The baby’s big sister, Miriam, stayed close by. She wanted to see what would happen and make sure her baby brother was safe. Soon...
