Paul Said Goodbye to His Friends

Image
Acts 20:16-38; Matthew 28:18-20 Our story comes from a book of the Bible called Acts. That name is short for “the Acts of the Apostles.” The word "Apostle" is another word to describe a helper of Jesus. The Bible tells us about a man named Paul. Paul was a man who knew a lot about Jesus. He traveled all around to talk to people. He told them who Jesus was and why He had come to earth. Paul told crowds of people how Jesus had died on the cross and then had come back to life. But the most important thing Paul told people about Jesus was that Jesus loved them and wanted them to be a part of God's family. Paul had shared about Jesus in many churches. Together with others he had told the people in churches in many cities about Jesus. Now Paul was going to take a boat to the big city of Jerusalem to tell lots of people about Jesus. Before he left, he met with his friends from the church in a town called Ephesus. Paul and his friends walked on the beac...

Acts 1:13-14; 2:42-47 Our story comes from a book of the Bible called Acts. That name is short for “the Acts of the Apostles.” The word "Apostle" is another word to describe a helper of Jesus. The Bible tells us that after Jesus went up to heaven, His friends went back to the city of Jerusalem. The friends often met in a room to pray. Other people who believed in Jesus met there too. During the day, the people who loved Jesus worked at their jobs. They needed water, food, and a place to live just as we do. Someone had to bake bread. Others carried water. Some built things out of wood. At the end of the day, the people who loved Jesus met in a house to worship God. They wanted to show Him how much they loved Him. The people remembered Jesus and all the good things He did. Jesus’ friends taught them about Jesus. The people remembered how much Jesus loved them. They prayed to God. They thanked God for being so good to them. They asked God to be with them an...

Peter and Paul Taught about Jesus

Acts 3:12-26; 16:4-5; 18:23; 20:20 Our story comes from a book of the Bible called Acts. That name is short for “the Acts of the Apostles.” The word "Apostle" is another word to describe a helper of Jesus. The Bible tells us about two men who helped people learn about Jesus. One man was named Peter. The other was named Paul. One day, Peter was in a city named Jerusalem. Peter met a man who couldn’t walk. He told the man about Jesus. God helped the man. The people who knew the man were surprised. They knew that he had never been able to walk. As the people gathered around Peter, they wanted to know what Peter had done to help him. Peter stepped in front of the people. He began to preach, or tell the people about Jesus. “Why are you surprised that this man can walk?” asked Peter. “I didn’t make him walk. It was God who made the man well. The man believed in Jesus, he can walk. You can see that with your own eyes,” said Peter. Then Peter kept on t...

Jesus Taught from the Word of God

Luke 4:16-22a Our story comes from the Bible. It is in a part, or book, of the Bible called Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wrote about Him so that others could know Jesus and love Jesus, too. All week long, Jesus was busy. Every day, He talked to people about God. He told them about God’s love. On the last day of the week, Jesus did not go out to work. It was God’s special day. It was for meeting with friends to worship God. Jesus went to a special place called a synagogue. A synagogue back in Jesus’ time was like our church building today. It was where people met to sing, pray, and learn about God’s Word, the Bible. One day, Jesus came to the town of Nazareth. He had lived in Nazareth when He was a little boy. Some of the people remembered Him. They were excited that Jesus had come back to Nazareth. On the last day of the week, everyone went to the synagogue. Jesus went too, just as He usually did. When all the people were there, they began to worship God. First, the...
