Nehemiah 1:1–6:15 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Nehemiah (pronounced “nee-ah-MY-ah”). The name Nehemiah means “God comforts.” Nehemiah lived far away from a city called Jerusalem. One day, Nehemiah heard very sad news: the walls around Jerusalem were broken, and the gates were burned. Without walls, the people were not safe! Nehemiah loved God very much. When he heard the sad news, he prayed to God. He asked God to help him. Then Nehemiah went to the king. He was very brave! Nehemiah said, “Please let me go and help fix the walls of Jerusalem.” The king said, “Yes, you can go!” Nehemiah traveled a long way to Jerusalem. When he got there, he looked at the broken walls and gates. They were in very bad shape. Nehemiah gathered all the people and said, “Let’s work together! Let’s rebuild the wall!” Everyone worked very hard. Some people carried rocks. Some people fixed the gates. Some people built new walls. Everyone helped! Even when mean people tried to scare them...

A long time ago, God’s people, the Israelites, were in trouble. Their enemies were not being kind to them. God chose a very special woman named Deborah to help. Deborah loved God and listened carefully to what God said. She helped people solve their problems, and everyone respected her because she was wise and kind. One day, Deborah told a man named Barak, “God wants you to gather an army and go fight the enemy. God will help you!” Barak was afraid to go by himself, so he said, “I will go if you come with me!” Deborah said, “I will go with you.” She was brave and trusted God! When it was time to fight, Deborah said, “Go! God is with you!” And God helped Barak and his army win the battle! After the battle was over, Deborah and Barak were so happy that they sang a song to thank God. They praised God for helping them and keeping them safe. Deborah li...

Exodus 17:8-13 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.” One day, God’s people, the Israelites, were in trouble. Some enemies called the Amalekites came to fight them. Moses was the leader of God’s people. He said, “I will go up on the hill and hold up God’s staff while the people fight.” So, Moses climbed the hill and stood where everyone could see him. He held the staff high in the air. When he held it up, God’s people were winning the battle! But after a while, Moses’ arms got tired. His arms began to drop, and the Amalekites started to win. So, Moses’ friends, Aaron and Hur, came to help. They found a big rock for Moses to sit on. Then Aaron stood on one side, and Hur stood on the other side. They each held up one of Moses’ arms so that the staff stayed high in the air. With God’s help, and because they worked together, the Israelites won the battle! Moses needed help, and his friends Aaron and Hur helped him. God wants us...
