The Story of Christmas

Luke 1:26-33, 38, 46; 2:1-18

Our true story comes from the Bible. It is in the part, or book, of the Bible called Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know Jesus and love Him, too.

Our Bible story is the story of Christmas. God sent an angel to Nazareth to give Mary a special message.

The angel told Mary that she was going to have a baby and His name would be Jesus. Jesus would be special because Jesus is God’s Son.

After the angel told Mary she was going to have a special baby, she and Joseph traveled from Nazareth to Bethlehem.

When they got to Bethlehem, there was no room for them to sleep.

So, even though Jesus would be the most special baby ever, He was born in a stable filled with animals and hay.

The Bible tells us of an angel who went to tell the shepherds the good news that God’s Son, Jesus, had been born.

One night, while shepherds were watching their sheep, an angel told them, "I have good news for all the people. Jesus has been born! You must go and see the baby!"

After that, many, many angels filled the sky and began singing and praising God. It was a celebration! It was the biggest, best Birthday Bash ever, all because Jesus was born. God’s Son was here. It was Jesus’ birthday!

Just like the angels that gave the good news, may we never stop celebrating Christmas. And may we always remember just how special Jesus is, God's Son!

Bible Paraphrase: God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son.  John 3:16, GNT

Text Truth: Christmas is the birthday of Jesus.

Family Devotional

Look for ways to fill your Christmas season with joy. It can be simply slowing down to really listen to the words of a favorite Christmas carol; helping someone in need; or telling someone about Jesus, your Savior, who came to earth as a baby.

Read the familiar passage of Luke 2:1-21 as if you have never heard or read it before. God sending Jesus is a special time filled with joy! Even the angels praised God!

You can have “great joy” (Luke 2:10) in the knowledge that Jesus came for us.
