Take Care of Others, Whom God Made

Matthew 7:12

Our true story comes from the Bible. It is found in the book, or part, of the Bible called Matthew. Matthew was one of the special helpers of Jesus.

What if someone in your family came home from the grocery store, and you saw them struggling to pick up the grocery bags and carry them into the house? Would you help them? Yes, you would! You could help them by carrying some of the groceries into the kitchen.

What if it was snack time and someone poured a bowl of pretzels for you and your little brother? Did God make your little brother? Yes, He did! But then he tripped and dropped his snack everywhere. What could you do to be kind to him? You could help him clean up the pretzels and share your snack with him. Yes, that would make him so happy!

And what if someone gave you a present? What should you say? Yes, you should say, “Thank you!”

And if you wanted to ask for something, what would you say? Yes, you should say, “Please!”

And if you had a friend over to play in your sandbox but there’s only one shovel, what should you do? Yes, you should share!

God tells us in His Word, the Bible, to treat others the way we want to be treated. Everyone was made by God. So, do you think everyone is important to God? Yes! Everyone is important to God. We are all important because God made every one of us! And, because God made every one of us, we should take care of ourselves and respect others.

Bible Paraphrase: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. – Psalm 139:14, NIV

"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." – Matthew 7:12

Our Bible story is about how God made us to respect others. And Jesus gave us a great way to remember how to respect other people. He said we should treat others the way we want to be treated.

With you family, make a list of your friends. The list will remind you that you should treat your friends with the respect that you want to be treated.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Thank God for each member of your family. Thank God for giving your friends to you. Read through your list of friends: "Please help (family member name) show respect for (friend's name)." Acknowledge that God made everyone and that you should treat everyone the way you want to be treated.
