Jesus Is Alive and Our Friend Forever!

Matthew 26:20-30; 27:45-50; 28:1-7

Our true story comes from a book of the Bible called Matthew. Matthew was one of the helpers of Jesus.

Easter Sunday, also called Resurrection Sunday, is a day when we remember the most important true story in all the Bible. It begins with God’s love for every person in the whole, wide world. God loved us so much that He sent His Son—Jesus—to be our friend forever.

Jesus told His friends that He had to go away, but He promised He would come back.

One night, while Jesus was praying in a garden, some angry people came and took Jesus away.

The angry people hurt Jesus and He died.

Jesus was gone. All of Jesus’ friends were so sad they cried. Some people put Jesus’ body in a tomb and then rolled a big stone in front of it. Three sad days went by.

And then on day three, something amazing happened! Some of Jesus’ friends went to the tomb...

...and when they got there the stone had been rolled away. JESUS WAS NOT THERE!

At first, they were even more sad. Where was Jesus’ body? Did someone take Him? But then they learned the GOOD NEWS! Jesus had come back, just like He said He would!

God loved us so much He sent Jesus to be our friend forever.

That is the good news! That is why we celebrate! That is why this is the most important story in the Bible!

Jesus is alive, and He wants to be your friend forever! Tell everyone the good news: Jesus is alive, and He wants to be your friend forever!

Bible Paraphrase: A friend loves at all times. – Proverbs 17:17, NIrV

Text Truth: God sent Jesus to be my friend forever.

Family Devotional

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”
 Matthew 28:5-7

Something very special happened on day three of our Bible story. Jesus came back on day three! Jesus told His friends that He had to go away, but He promised He would come back. Then some angry people took Him away. They hurt Jesus so bad that He died. But, on day three, Jesus came back, just like He promised!

Jesus is alive and He is your friend. And not only is Jesus your friend, but Jesus also wants to be your friend forever!

Jesus is the best friend we will ever have. Jesus loves us at all times.

A friend loves at all times. – Proverbs 17:17

With your family, make a list of your friends. And don't forget to include Jesus in your list. He is your best friend!

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Thank God for giving you so many great friends. Read your list: "Dear God, thank You for (read through your list of friends)." Say a very special thank-You for your good friend Jesus. Thank God that He made a way for you to be with Him forever and that Jesus came back just like He promised.
