Jesus Gives You the Power to Have Peace

John 14:27; Matthew 6:25-34

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus. Our true story also comes from a book of the Bible called Matthew. Matthew was one of the helpers of Jesus.

Jesus was teaching some people about God. He knew people worried about things like what they were going to eat and what they were going to wear.

He loved the people and didn’t want them to worry. He wanted them to have peace. So, this is what Jesus told them.

Jesus said, "Look at the birds. God takes care of them. Think about it, do birds have refrigerators in their trees? Of course not! And can birds go to the grocery store?"

"No! That would be silly! And can birds just get a kid’s meal at the drive-thru? No way! Birds don’t have to do that because God takes care of them!"

"And what about flowers? God made flowers with the most beautiful colors. Do you think flowers worry about what clothes they’re going to wear?"

"No! God takes care of flowers and makes them beautiful. God takes care of the flowers, and God takes care of the birds. Now tell me: Does God love you more than flowers and birds?"

"Yes, He does! We are the most special thing God ever made. He loves us so much more! So, we know if God will take care of flowers and birds, God will take care of us. That means we don’t have to worry about food and clothes."

When Jesus is your friend forever, He gives you the power to not worry and have peace. When Jesus is your friend, He gives you the power to do everything!

Bible Paraphrase: I can do everything by the power of Christ.  Philippians 4:13, NIrV

Text Truth: Jesus gives you the power to have peace.

Family Devotional

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" — Matthew 6:25-26

Jesus told a story about some birds and flowers. Were they worried about not having food? No! Birds don’t worry about food. Jesus told that story because He wants us to not worry about food. Jesus wants us to have peace. And we can have peace because Jesus gives us the power to do everything! Because Jesus is alive, when we follow Jesus, He gives us the power to have peace instead of worrying about things.

I can do everything by the power of Christ. – Philippians 4:13, NIrV

With your family, make a list of things you sometimes worry about. Maybe you worry when your mom or dad leave you with a baby sitter. Maybe you worry when you see a stranger. Maybe you worry about the the dark or you worry that our dog or cat misses you.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Thank God for sending Jesus to give you the power to have peace instead of worrying about things. Ask God to help you trust Him when you begin to worry about things like... (read through your list). Ask that (say family member name) will follow Jesus so they can love others the way Jesus loves them and have the power to have peace. Thank God for Jesus and acknowledge your love for Him.
