God Gave Jesus Because He Loves Us

Luke 1:26-33, 38, 46-49; Luke 2:1-20

Our true story comes from the Bible. It is in the part, or book, of the Bible called Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too.

The true story of Christmas begins with a young woman named Mary. God sent an angel to a town called Nazareth, to tell a young woman named Mary that she was going to have a special baby. Mary would have a baby boy and His name would be Jesus.

Mary and Joseph had to travel all the way from Nazareth to Bethlehem, and that’s where the special baby was born.

But there were no more rooms left in the town. Someone let them sleep in a stable where they kept their animals. And that is where the special baby was born.

Then something else amazing happened! That night, there were shepherds out in a field watching over their sheep. Suddenly, they saw an angel! The angel told them that Jesus had been born!

Then lots of angels filled the sky singing and praising God because God’s Son, Jesus, had been born!

The shepherds got so excited that they ran to see baby Jesus. When they saw Him, they were amazed. Then they got excited and went running again! This time they ran to tell all of their friends that God gave us Jesus!

Jesus grew up to do so many amazing things and teach us how to love others. And the BEST part is that Jesus came to be our friend forever. We KNOW that God loves us because God gave us Jesus! And that is the true story of Christmas!

Bible Paraphrase: God has given a son to us. – Isaiah 9:6, NCV

Text Truth: God gave us Jesus because He loves us.

Family Devotional

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. – Luke 2:15-18

In our Bible story we learn that Christmas is all about Jesus’ birthday. So, with your family, sing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus.

You have been learning how God gave us Jesus. First, God sent an angel to tell Mary she was going to have a special baby and His name would be Jesus.

Next, Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem. There were no more rooms, so when Jesus was born, Mary wrapped Him and laid Him in a manger.

After Jesus was born, God sent angels to tell some shepherds that Jesus had been born. The shepherds ran to see baby Jesus and then ran to tell everyone the good news that God gave us Jesus!

God has given a son to us. – Isaiah 9:6, NCV

Gather paper, crayons, markers, and stickers. As a family activity, make Happy Birthday cards for Jesus.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Thank God for teaching you the true story of Christmas. Ask God to help you always remember that Christmas is about God giving you the best gift ever, Jesus. Ask God to help you tell everyone you see that Christmas is the birthday of Jesus. Thank God for His love. Acknowledge to God your love for Him.
