Jesus is Born

Luke 2:1-7

Our true story comes from the Bible. It is in the part, or book, of the Bible called Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too.

God sent an angel to a town called Nazareth, to tell a young woman named Mary that she was going to have a special baby. Mary would have a baby boy and His name would be Jesus.

But Mary and Joseph needed to travel from Nazareth, all the way to a town called Bethlehem to be counted. This was because of a new law made by Roman Emperor Caesar August. Emperor is another word for king.

It would be very hard for Mary to walk all the way to Bethlehem, especially since she was going to have a baby. Do you think Mary rode in a car all the way to Bethlehem? No, they didn't have cars. Do you think Mary rode in an airplane? No, they didn't have airplanes. Do you think Mary rode on a donkey all the way to Bethlehem? Yes, she probably rode a donkey!

When Mary and Joseph got to Bethlehem, they needed to find a place to sleep. But, all of the rooms were filled with people. There was no place for them to stay, except for where the animals stayed.

So, when it was time for baby Jesus to be born, Mary wrapped Him all snug and warm and laid Him in a box that animals eat out of called a manger.

The baby that God sent the angel to tell Mary about was here! Jesus was born!

God loves us so much that He gave us His Son, Jesus! God loved Mary and Joseph, and He loves you! We know God loves us because God gave us Jesus!

Bible Paraphrase: God has given a son to us. – Isaiah 9:6, NCV

Text Truth: Jesus is born.

Family Devotional

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. – Luke 2:1-7

In our Bible story, Mary and Joseph went all the way to Bethlehem. When they got there, they couldn’t find a place to stay. Where did Mary lay baby Jesus when He was born? Yes! Mary wrapped baby Jesus in cloth and laid Him in a manger. And that is how God showed us how much He loves us. God gave us Jesus to be our friend forever.

God has given a son to us. – Isaiah 9:6, NCV

With your family, make a list of things Jesus grew up to do. Jesus didn't stay a baby, did He? No! Jesus grew up to do amazing things! Jesus fed lots and lots of people, He walked on water, He calmed storms, He made sick people all better, He was a good friend to everyone, and He taught people about God. Jesus grew up and did all kinds of wonderful things!

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Acknowledge to God that you love Christmas because it is when you get to celebrate that Jesus was born. Thank God for giving you Jesus. Thank God that Jesus grew up to do amazing things like (read through your list) AND that Jesus died died and came back, just like He said He would. Acknowledge that Jesus does things only He can do. And that makes Him the most amazing friend ever! Thank God for His love. Acknowledge to God your Love for Him.
