Jesus is Alive! And Jesus Wants to Be Your Friend Forever!
Matthew 26:20-50; 27:1-2; 28:1-7
Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Matthew. Matthew was one of the helpers of Jesus.
Our story is the true story of Easter! Some call this day Resurrection Sunday. Here is why we celebrate with pretty clothes and yummy food and candy and family and all the fun! The true story begins with God's love for us. Because God loves you SO much! God loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to be our friend forever. But first, something sad had to happen.
One night, Jesus was having dinner with His friends. While they were eating, Jesus told His friends He would go away soon and then come back.
After dinner, Jesus went to pray in a garden. While Jesus was in the garden, some angry people came and took Jesus away.
The angry people hurt Jesus so bad that He died. All of Jesus’ friends were so very sad.
Text Truth: Jesus is alive!
The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”
– Matthew 28:5-7
When Jesus died, His friends put His body in a tomb and rolled a big stone in front of it. When Jesus’ friends went back, the stone had been rolled away and Jesus was gone! Jesus is alive! The big stone was rolled away and Jesus wasn’t in the tomb because Jesus is alive!
With your family, make a list of your friends. And make sure to include the Jesus in your list. He is your best friend!
Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, thank God for giving you so many great friends. Read your list: "Dear God, thank You for (read through your list of friends)." Say a very special thank-You for your good friend Jesus. Thank God that He Jesus is alive and He is your friend forever. Thank God for His love and acknowledge to God your love for him.

One day, two days, three days! On the third day, some of Jesus’ friends went to the tomb.
They saw the stone was rolled away and Jesus was not inside!
Jesus came back, just like He said He would! Jesus is alive!
And that is why we are celebrating.
Easter is when we celebrate that Jesus is alive and He wants to be our friend forever!
