Wonderfully Made In God’s Image

Genesis 1:26; Psalm 46:1; Proverbs 2:6

Our true story is found in the Bible. Some of it is found in a part of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.” Some of our true story is found a part of the Bible called Psalms. The word psalm means holy song (or special song). And some of our true story is found in a part of the Bible called Proverbs. A proverb is a wise truth.

Our story is about the One who made ALL people. Who do you think it is? Yes! God made ALL people. God made all people in His likeness. That means He made us to be like Him!

And no two people are the same. God even makes twins, who look like each other, different in their own special way.

When we look around at ALL the people God made, we see that some people are girls. And some are boys. Some people have red hair. And others have black, brown, or blond hair.

God made people with fingers. God made people with feet. God made people with eyes, a mouth, and teeth.

God even gave us a brain to think. God gave us very special brains which help us learn so many new things. We can learn how to talk and sing, tie our shoes and ride a bike, read books and put puzzles together.

In fact, you are learning right now! You are learning how God made ALL people! We are smart thinkers, because God made us to be smart thinkers like Him!

And God made us to be creative! For example, you may love music. You may love to dance. You may love to draw or paint. You may love to build things with blocks. You may love to dress up. You may love to pretend to be different people or animals and act out stories. Doing things like these are just some of the ways you show that you are creative! You are creative because God made us to be creative like Him.

God also made us to help others. We can help others by making them a get-well card, helping them clean up, or saying kind words to make them smile.

It is so incredible that God made people with amazing bodies to learn, be creative, and help others! You should feel pretty wonderful, right now, because YOU are wonderfully made by God.

Bible Paraphrase: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. — Psalm 139:14, NIV

Text Truth: God made me.

Family Devotional

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." —Genesis 1:26

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. —Psalm 46:1

For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. —Proverbs 2:6

Our Bible story was about how God made each of us in His image. That means God made you like Him—smart so you can learn things, creative so you can make things, and a helper so you can help others! This means you are wonderfully made!

I am fearfully and wonderfully made—Psalm 139:14, NIV

One of the ways God made us in His image was that He made a very smart brain for us! We can learn lots of new things and think great ideas! With your family, each of you write down one thing you want to learn about. And write do the family member's name with each thing.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, acknowledge to God that He made such an amazing world for you, and there is so much you want to learn! "Please help (family member) learn about (what they listed) and... (repeat for all family members in your list)." Acknowledge to God that learning and thinking about new things is so fun! Thank God for His love and acknowledge to God your love for him.
