Noah

Genesis 6:8-33, 7:1-24, 8:1–9:17

Our true story is found in a part of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.”

We begin with a man named Noah. He loved God and always tried to do what God said.

One day, God told Noah to build a REALLY BIG boat called an ark. So, that’s what Noah did. He started building right away.

It took a very long time, but Noah built the ark just like God told him. Do you know why God told Noah to build such a big, BIG boat? The ark needed to be that big because God told Noah to put two of every animal on the ark! That’s a lot of animals.

There are SO many animals in the world. And lots, and lots, of animals went into the ark. Then God shut the door. We might think Noah was worried. He was getting in a BIG boat with all of those animals, and He didn’t know what would happen next. But Noah knew he didn’t have to worry because God’s got it!

After every person and animal was on the ark, it began to rain. It rained, and it rained, and the whole earth flooded with water.

But God kept Noah, his family, and the animals safe.

Then one day, the rain stopped. After it stopped raining, Noah wanted to see if it was okay to get out of the ark. He sent a bird to fly and find dry land. We might think Noah was worried that the water would never go away. But Noah knew he didn’t have to worry because God’s got it!

And guess what happened? The bird brought back a green leaf! That meant there was dry land where trees and plants could grow!

It was such a happy day when God told Noah that he, his family, and all of the animals could get off the ark! Noah thanked God for being with them the whole time and keeping them safe.

Then, God did the most amazing thing! God put a rainbow in the sky to show His promise that He would never flood the whole earth again. When we see a rainbow, we can remember that God keeps His promises. God is always with us, and God’s got it!

Bible Paraphrase: God is with you wherever you go. — Joshua 1:9, NLT

Text Truth: God keeps His promises.

Family Devotional

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
—Genesis 9:12-13

Noah was on a big boat in our Bible story today. Who told Noah to build a big boat? God told Noah to build the big boat. Then Noah, his family, and the animals went inside the boat and were safe when all of the rain came.

At the end of the story, do you remember what God put in the sky? God made a rainbow in the sky to show His promise to never cover the world with water again. And God always keeps His promises. That’s how we know that no matter what happens, God’s got it!

God is with you wherever you goJoshua 1:9, NLT

Since God put all kinds of animals in the boat with Noah, make a list, with your family, of your favorite animals. Have every family member add to this list.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, thank God for making so many wonderful animals like (read through your family's list). Thank God for putting the animals on the boat with Noah and keeping them safe. Ask God to help you trust that He will always keep His promises and no matter what happens, God's got it. Thank God for His love, and acknowledge to God your love for Him.
