Jesus Is Born

Luke 2:1-7

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. The word gospel means “good news!”

The true story of Christmas began when an angel told a girl named Mary that she would have a baby. The baby would be super special because Jesus is God’s Son!

God loves us so much that He gave us His Son, Jesus. Our story is about when Jesus was born. Our story begins with Mary and Joseph going on a long trip. What kind of animal do you think Mary rode? Mary and Joseph needed an animal like a donkey to get to the town of Bethlehem.

When they got to Bethlehem, they needed a place to stay. Joseph knocked on a door. The person that opened the door told them there was no room for them inside, but they could stay in the stable outside. So, Mary and Joseph had to sleep in a stable where all the animals stayed.

Soon, Jesus, God’s Son, was born! Mary wrapped Baby Jesus up and laid Him gently in a manger. The most special baby in all of the world was born. And why is Jesus special? Jesus is God’s Son.

Jesus is why we celebrate Christmas. Jesus, God’s Son, was born. Jesus is God’s Son!

Bible Paraphrase: God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son. — John 3:16, GNT

Text Truth: Jesus is born.

Family Devotional

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
Luke 2:1-7

Our Bible story was about Mary and Joseph travelling all the way to Bethlehem before Baby Jesus was born. Do you remember what happened when Mary and Joseph got to Bethlehem? The only place left for them to sleep was a stable where animals stay. And that’s where a very special baby was born. What was the baby’s name? Yes, Jesus! And why is Jesus special? Jesus is God’s Son!”

God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son. —John 3:16, GNT

God loved everyone in the whole wide world so much that He gave us His Son, Jesus, to be our friend forever! That is what the true story of Christmas is all about. And that is why Jesus is SO special! Why is Jesus special? Jesus is God’s Son! Jesus’ very first birthday happened in a stable with Mary and Joseph, and the animals, of course.

If you have Christmas cookie cutters, grab one. And if you have a gingerbread cookie cutter, even better! Bring the cookie cutter to your family gathering. Pass the cookie cutter around your group. And as each family member holds the cookie cutter, have them say, "Happy Birthday, Jesus!"

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, acknowledge to God that this is such a special time of year because Jesus is special, and it is His birthday! Thank God for loving you all so much that He gave you His Son, Jesus. Ask God to help you celebrate Jesus every day! Thank God for His love and acknowledge to God your love for Him.
