Acts 2:42-47

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Acts, which is short for “The Acts of the Apostles.” An apostle is someone who is sent to teach people about Jesus.

We begin with Jesus’ friends who wanted to LOVE people like Jesus loved them. Can you make a heart with your hands like this?

Yes! Jesus’ friends wanted to LOVE people like Jesus loved them. So, do you know what they did They SHARED. If someone needed a coat, they gave him one of theirs.

If someone needed a place to stay, they shared their home!

If someone didn’t have something to eat, they would give her food!

Jesus’ friends were super sharers because that is how Jesus loved people. He shared with everyone. Jesus’ friends spent lots of time together. They ate, talked, and laughed. They loved each other because Jesus loved them.

And do you know what else they did? They praised God. This showed everyone that they were friends with Jesus.

Let's do that, too! Let’s be friends like Jesus and share so that everyone knows that Jesus loves them and wants to be their friend forever!

Bible Paraphrase: How wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. —Ephesians 3:18, NIV

Text Truth: Jesus wants to be our friend forever.

Family Devotional

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
—Acts 2:42-47

Our Bible story was about how we can love others the way Jesus loves us. Do you remember how we can love people? We can love them by giving them the food, clothes, or a home that they need. When we give people what they need, we are loving them and being a good friend, just like Jesus!

How wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. —Ephesians 3:18, NIV

Everyone needs clothes, and giving people clothes when they need them is one way we can love like Jesus. So, with your family, make a list of clothing. It can be socks, shoes, a coat, shirt . . . anything that you wear.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, thank God for giving you the clothes you need. Say, "Help us give people (read through your family's list) so they will have clothes and know how much Jesus loves them and wants to be their friend forever." Thank God for His love and tell God that you love Him. Close your prayer, "In Jesus' name, amen."
