David Praises

2 Samuel 6:12-15

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Second Samuel (2 Samuel). The man Samuel loved God and told the people what God wanted them to know.

Do you remember who we’ve been talking about all month long? His name starts with a “D.” Yes, David! Our story starts with David dancing!

Now, you might be wondering, why was David dancing? Well, David danced because he was celebrating! Do you know WHO he was celebrating? God! David danced as a way to praise and thank God. David knew that God made him to do BIG things!

What big things did David do? Well, let’s play a game and see if we can remember. I’ll ask you some questions about David, and you tell me the answer. Are you ready? Question number ONE! When David was a shepherd watching his flock of sheep, an animal came and took one of the sheep!
Was it a giant octopus? Was it a mighty eagle? Or was it a lion?

Yes, a lion! You are correct.

Okay, here’s Question Two. David did something really big that other people were afraid to do. Was it to take everyone some pizza? Did he wanna build a snowman? OR did David challenge a great, big giant named Goliath?

If you said, "Challenge the giant, Goliath," you are right! God made David to do big things, and he knocked down the giant! Okay, last question.

When David became king, he helped someone. Did David help a kangaroo? Did David help a woman cross the road? Or did David help Jonathan’s son, Mephibosheth?

Yes! God made David to do big things, and he took care of Mephibosheth! Great playing, friends.

God made David to do so many big things, and that’s why David celebrated and praised God by dancing and making music and singing songs! David praised God because he wanted to say thank you. God made us to do big things. Which means, we can dance, too!

Bible Paraphrase: Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid . . . for the Lord your God goes with you. Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV

Text Truth: We can celebrate that God made me to do big things.

Family Devotional

Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.
—2 Samuel 6:14-15

Our Bible story was about how David praised God because God made him to do big things. And not only did God make David to do big things, God helped David be strong and courageous! Just like it says in the Bible verse we have been learning.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid . . . for the Lord your God goes with you. —Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV

David celebrated and praised God because God made him to do big things. So, with your family, celebrate and praise God because He made you to do big things, too! Write down each family member's name. And after each name is written. Have that family member stand up and say, "God made me to do big things!"

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, There is no one else like You. No one loves as big as You. No one has power as big as You. No one can help us as big as You. You are AWESOME! Thank You for helping us be strong and courageous so we can do the big things You made us to do. Thank You for making [family member’s name] to do big things. Thank You for making [family member’s name] to do big things . . . (continue with each family member). We just want to celebrate and praise You, God, and tell You we love You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
