The Angel and Mary

Luke 1:26-33, 38, 46-49

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!”

This is the true story of . . . CHRISTMAS! The true story of Christmas begins a long, long, time ago, and it is AMAZING!

Do you know that God loved you before you were even born? It’s true! God loved you; God loved all of us before we were born! And because God loves us sooo much, God gave us Jesus! THAT is where the true story of Christmas begins.

One day, God told a woman named Mary that she would have a very special baby named Jesus. Now, how do you think God told Mary she would have Baby Jesus? Do you think God called her on the phone to tell her?

Noooo . . . God didn’t call Mary on a cell phone. Do you think God sent her a letter in the mail to tell her?

Noooo . . . God didn’t mail Mary a letter. This is how God told Mary about Jesus. God sent an . . .  ANGEL! "A" is for ANGEL

God sent an angel to tell Mary that she would have Baby Jesus. When Mary saw the angel, she was surprised and afraid.

But the angel looked at Mary and said, "Do not be afraid, Mary. I have GOOD news!"

He said she would have a baby boy, and His name would be Jesus! He told her Jesus would grow up to do amazing things because He is God’s Son. And that’s how we know God loves us. God gave us His Son, Jesus, to be our friend forever.

Bible Paraphrase: God has given a son to us. Isaiah 9:6, NCV

Text Truth: God told us He would give us Jesus.

Family Devotional

Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” —Luke 1:29-33

Our Bible story was about an angel. "A" is for ANGEL! God sent an angel to give Mary a very special message. Do you remember the angel’s special message for Mary? The angel told Mary she would have Baby Jesus!

God loves you, and God loves me so much that He gave us Jesus! That’s how we know God loves us. God gave us Jesus!

God has given a son to us. —Isaiah 9:6, NCV

God gave us all the most wonderful gift! So, with your family, make a list of things you would like to get for Christmas.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, Thank You for Christmas. It’s such a special time when we can show people we love them by giving gifts. Thank You for gifts like (read the list your family made). But more than anything, thank You for the gift of Jesus. Jesus is the best gift ever! We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
