Healing a Man Born Blind

John 9:1-12

Our true story is found in a part of the Bible called the Gospel of John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus. And the word "Gospel" means "good news!"

Our true story is about some super amazing! Jesus and His friends, the disciples, were walking on a road near town . . .

. . . when they met a man who could not see. He had been born blind. That means that for all of his life, the man’s eyes couldn’t see. If you closed your eyes for a minute, what could you see? Nothing. You could not see anyone and you could not tell if it was sunny or dark outside.

Jesus was kind and wanted to help the man. So, Jesus spit in the dirt and made some mud. Then, Jesus put the mud on the man’s eyes.

Next, Jesus told the man to go wash in a pool of water. And when the blind man washed off the dirt, what do you think happened?

Yes! He could see. It was amazing! The people around them who saw what Jesus did were amazed, too! For the first time ever, the man could see! The man could see his neighbors. He could see trees!

When his neighbors saw the man and asked him what happened, the man said, “Jesus made mud, spread it over my eyes, and told me to go wash in a pool of water. And now I can see!” The man could see for the very first time, and it was all because Jesus was kind to him and did something ONLY Jesus could do. Jesus is amazing!

Bible Paraphrase: Everyone who heard him was amazed. — Luke 2:47, NIV

Text Truth: Jesus’ kindness is amazing.

Family Devotional

“As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.
John 9:4-6

In our Bible story, we learned how Jesus made a man’s eyes see for the very first time. That man had to be so happy! He probably skipped or happy-hopped all the way home! Everywhere Jesus went, He did amazing things and He said amazing things.

Everyone who heard him was amazed.  —Luke 2:47, NIV

Jesus wants us to be kind to people the way He is kind to people. So, with your family, make a list of ways you can be kind. There are so many ways you can be kind. You can give hugs, share our food, and help people when they are hurt. Those are just a few ideas. As each family member writes down the way they can be kind, write down their name next to it.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, we want to be kind like Jesus. Please help (name each family member) do kind things like (read the list your family made). We want everyone to know that Jesus is amazing! We love You! In Jesus’ name, we pray, amen.”
