Jesus and the Children

Luke 18:15-16

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!”

Our true story is about someone who loves us a whole lot! It’s Jesus! Jesus loves us! We know that Jesus can do amazing things only He can do. Jesus is an amazing teacher, and people would come from far away to hear Him teach.

A LOT of people would come to hear Jesus.

The people came because Jesus is amazing, and they wanted to see Him, hear Him, and get close to Him.

One day when Jesus was teaching, people brought their children to see Jesus. The parents wanted their children to get close to Jesus. These parents knew how special and amazing Jesus is.

BUT Jesus’ disciples stopped the parents. They didn’t want the children near Jesus. The disciples told the children to go away.

But Jesus called the children to Him and said, “Let the little children come to me!”

Jesus opened His arms wide, and the children went to Him. They were able to be near Him and know how much Jesus loved them. Jesus told the crowd to never stop children from coming to Him because Jesus loves children.

Raise your hand if Jesus loves you! Yes! Jesus loves you. Jesus loves you and wants to be your friend forever. Jesus loves you, and Jesus loves me.

Bible Verse: How wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. Ephesians 3:18, NIV

Text Truth: Jesus loves me.

Family Devotional

People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
—Luke 18:15-16

In our Bible story, we learned that Jesus loves children and He wants to be their friend forever. That means Jesus loves you, and He wants to be YOUR friend forever!

How wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. —Ephesians 3:18, NIV

With your family, each of you write your name on a piece of paper. And after each name, draw a heart because Jesus loves you!

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, Thank You that Jesus loves [family member’s name], and Jesus loves [family member’s name] . . . (continue this with each family member’s name). Thank You that all children can go to Jesus, talk to Him, and be His friend forever. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
