Esther

Esther 2:21–8:17

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Esther. Esther loved God and trusted Him even when that was very hard to do.

There are several different people in our story. First, we have a queen named Esther.

Queen Esther was one of God’s people, and she was a super brave helper.

Then, there was Haman. Haman worked for the king, but he did NOT love God.

Haman tricked the king into making a plan that would hurt all of God’s people! OH, NO! If the king hurts God’s people, it will hurt Queen Esther’s family.

When Queen Esther heard about Haman’s plan, she was so sad. She knew that she needed to help her family, God’s people. She needed to talk to the king. But there was one BIG problem! Queen Esther knew that you needed a special invitation to go talk to the king.

Esther was afraid because she might get in trouble for going to see the king without being invited. Queen Esther asked all of God’s people to pray for her for three days. Count with me: One, two, three! After they prayed for three days, Esther was brave and went to see the king.

And guess what? The king was happy to see Esther and invited her to come talk with him. Whew! Esther was so brave! She was STRONG and COURAGEOUS. And she was able to talk to the king!

Queen Esther invited the king and Haman to a special dinner. Esther prepared a special meal for the king and Haman.

During dinner, the king told Esther to ask for anything she wanted. That’s when Esther knew she could help her people! Esther asked the king to stop Haman’s mean plan and save her family and all of God’s people.

And guess what? The king said, “Yes!” Wow! Esther was brave, and she helped her people! God helped Esther be brave, and God can help you be brave too. Who can help you be brave? God can help you be brave!

Bible Paraphrase: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid . . . for the Lord your God goes with you.” Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV

Text Truth: I can be brave and help others.

Family Devotional

Then Queen Esther answered, “If I have found favor with you, Your Majesty, and if it pleases you, grant me my life—this is my petition. And spare my people—this is my request.
—Esther 7:3

In our Bible story, Queen Esther was very brave. Even though the king had not invited Queen Esther, she went to talk to him and ask him to help save her family. Who helped Queen Esther be brave? God helped Queen Esther be brave! Queen Esther’s family prayed with her for three days, then Queen Esther was brave and asked the king to help her family.

When we pray, God can help us be brave and help others, too! Who can help you be brave? God can help you be brave!

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid . . . for the Lord your God goes with you.”
—Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV

Queen Esther was brave and helped her family. So, with your family, take a piece of paper and make a list of people you can help! And remember to write down the name of each family member next to the name of the person they say.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, there are so many people we can help! We can help (read the list your family made). Please help (name each family member) be brave and help others. Thank You for always helping us, God. We love You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
