Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego

Image
Daniel 3:10–28 Our true story is found in a part of the Bible called Daniel. Daniel was a man who loved God very much and lived in a land called Babylon. We begin with three people named Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Those are some big names! We’ll say them again. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego loved God and God loved them.  But there was a king named King Nebuchadnezzar. King Nebuchadnezzar thought that he was the greatest king and that EVERYONE should know it. So, he built a giant golden statue. The king said, “Every time you hear music play, you have to bow down and worship my gold statue.” Hold on! This isn’t right! God says you should only bow down and worship the one true God! Then the king said, “And if you do not bow down and worship the statue, you will be thrown into a fiery furnace!”  Whoa! This was serious. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had a choice to make. Were they going to live for the king and bow down to his gold statue,...

Jeremiah

Jeremiah 31:3, 29:11 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Jeremiah, named after a man who loved God and told people about God so that they could love Him, too. Jeremiah was a prophet. That means his job was to talk about God to others. Jeremiah told other people God’s messages.  One day, God gave Jeremiah a very special message to give to the people. Jeremiah talked about God with others. Jeremiah gave the people a message from God. He said, “God has plans for you. And God will always love you!” And we can talk about God with others like Jeremiah did! We can talk about God to others and tell them that God loves them and God has plans for them! Can you think of someone you can talk about God to? We can talk about God with our friends. We can tell them, “God loves you!” We can talk about God with our neighbors. We can tell them, “God loves you!” We can talk about God with the person at the grocery store. We can tell them, “God loves you!” We can talk about God with ou...

Hannah

1 Samuel 1–2 Our story comes from the Bible. It is found in the part of the Bible called 1 Samuel (we say "First Samuel"). It is the first of two books in the Bible named after Samuel. We begin with a woman named Hannah. Hannah is feeling sad. Hannah was so sad that she cried! But even though Hannah was so sad, she knew she could pray and talk to God. Hannah could talk to God even when she was crying.  Hannah talked to God about why she was sad. Hannah knew she could pray and talk to God about anything. Guess how Hannah is feeling now? Yay! Hannah is smiling. She feels happy! Talking to God made Hannah feel so much better! Hannah had joy again because she knew that God loved her and she could pray and talk to God about anything. God loves you and God loves me. That means we can pray and talk to God about anything, too! You can pray and talk to God when you feel happy, or sad, or frustrated. No matter how you’re feeling, you can talk to God. When you get a new toy at the store...

King Josiah

2 Chronicles 34 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Second Chronicles (2 Chronicles). The word “chronicle” means “written history.” We begin with a king. Now, when I think about kings, I think of someone older and wiser, someone who can lead the people! But this king was young, and his name was King Josiah. He was VERY young when he became king. Can you help me find out how old he was? Let’s count together: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8! King Josiah was eight years old! Most eight-year-old kids are eating ice cream. Or, eight-year-olds are building with blocks. Or, eight-year-olds are kicking a soccer ball. King Josiah wasn’t eating ice cream, building with blocks, or kicking a soccer ball. Eight-year-old Josiah was KING. King Josiah loved God. And he wanted to hear from God.  Well, one day some of King Josiah was a little older his workers found something very special! They found a scroll. Scrolls are like books, and the scroll King Josiah’s workers found had God’s words...
