Angels Told of Jesus

Luke 2:8-20

Our true story comes from the Bible. It is in the part, or book, of the Bible called Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too.

God sent an angel to a town called Nazareth, to tell a young woman named Mary that she was going to have a special baby. Mary would have a baby boy and His name would be Jesus.

Mary and Joseph had to travel all the way from Nazareth to Bethlehem, and that’s where the special baby was born.

There were some shepherds out in a field taking care of a certain kind of animal. Do you think the shepherds were taking care of elephants? No. Do you think the shepherds were taking care of penguins? No. What were the shepherds watching in the fields? Yes, the shepherds were watching sheep!

While these shepherds were watching their sheep, an angel came to talk to them. The angel said, "I bring you good news of great joy! JESUS IS BORN!"

Then suddenly, the whole sky was full of angels singing and praising God! They sang, "Glory to God in the highest!" The shepherds were SO excited they ran to see baby Jesus!

When the shepherds saw baby Jesus, they were AMAZED! There He was, just like the angel said!

The shepherds were so happy, they ran again. This time they ran to go tell everyone that God gave us Jesus!

God loves us so much that He gave us Jesus! God loved Mary and Joseph and the shepherds, and He loves you! We know God loves us because God gave us Jesus!

Bible Paraphrase: God has given a son to us. – Isaiah 9:6, NCV

Text Truth: The angels tell about Jesus.

Family Devotional

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told– Luke 2:8-20

The shepherds in our story had some very special visitors one night. Angels! What did the angels tell the shepherds? Yes, the angels told the shepherds that Jesus had been born!

The shepherds got so excited that they ran to see baby Jesus. After they saw Him, they ran and told everyone that God gave us Jesus!

God has given a son to us. – Isaiah 9:6, NCV

With your family, make a list of people you can tell "God gave you Jesus," just like the shepherds did. Ask each family member to include someone in the list, and include the name of the family member.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Acknowledge to God that you want everyone to know that God gave us Jesus. Ask God, "Please help [family member's name] tell [person's name] God gave us Jesus." (Repeat for each family member.) Thank God for His love. Acknowledge to God your love for Him.
