Jesus is Alive and Our Good Friend Forever

Matthew 26—28; John 21:1-14

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospels. The word "Gospel" means "good news!" Our story is found in the Gospels written by Matthew and John. Both Matthew and John were disciples of Jesus. That means Jesus was their teacher.

Our story is about someone very special who did something only He can do. Do you know who it is? Jesus is the very special person. God sent His Son, Jesus, to show us how to love each other and to be our friend forever.

Jesus taught us how to love each other by being a good friend.

Jesus loves everyone, and He was a good friend to people who were different than Him.

Jesus was a good friend to everyone—even when people made wrong choices.

Here is the most amazing thing Jesus did that only He can do. One day, a very sad thing happened. Some angry people took Jesus away and hurt Him so badly that He died.

Jesus’ friends buried Him in a tomb and rolled a big stone in front of it. Jesus was gone, and His friends were very sad.

But, on the third day, Jesus did the amazing thing that only He can do. Jesus came back! Jesus is alive!

When Jesus came back, He went to His friends so they could see that He is alive.

Then His friends told other people, and THEY told other people, and THEY told other people . . .and some of the people, like Matthew and John, wrote stories about seeing Jesus alive! Now, we can read what they wrote in the Bible and know all about Jesus!

Bible Paraphrase: These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. — John 20:31, NLV

Text Truth: I can believe in Jesus.

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
— Matthew 28:16-20

Our Bible story was about God’s Son, Jesus. We learned how angry people hurt Jesus so badly that He died. Jesus’ friends buried Him in a tomb, and they were very sad. But that’s not the end of the story. On the third day...JESUS CAME BACK! Jesus is alive, and He wants to be your friend forever!

We know Jesus is alive, because people saw Jesus come back, and they wrote down what they saw. We can read it all here in the Bible.

These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. — John 20:31, NLV

Jesus came back and is alive today. He wants to be your friend forever. And He wants to be a friend to everyone in your family. With your family, write down the names of all the people in your family.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, thank God that His Son, Jesus, came back and is alive today. Thank God that He wants to be everyone's friend forever. Thank God that Jesus wants to be a friend forever to (read through the list of your family). Ask God that each person will believe in Jesus and follow Him. Thank God for His love and acknowledge to God your love for him.
