Great Commission

Matthew 28:19-20

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew was a disciple of Jesus. That means Jesus was his teacher. And the word gospel means “good news!”

Our true story is about one really important thing that Jesus wants ALL of us to do. Jesus told some of His friends about the one important thing while on a mountain.

We begin on a mountain with Jesus and His friends, the disciples. While they were on the mountain, Jesus gave His friends an important job to do. What do you think that important job is? GO and TELL!

Jesus told His friends to GO and TELL everyone, everywhere that Jesus is alive and wants to be your friend forever. That’s a very special job!

And guess what! Jesus wants ALL of His friends, like you and me, to do that job, too! Oh, look! It’s grandma! Let’s go and tell her. Ready? One . . . two . . . three . . . “Jesus is alive and wants to be your friend forever!”

Oh, look! It’s the checkout person at the grocery store. Let’s tell them! One . . . two . . . three . . . “Jesus is alive and wants to be your friend forever!”

Look! It’s our friends playing at the park. Let’s go and tell them! Ready? One . . . two . . . three . . . “Jesus is alive and wants to be your friend forever!”

That was fantastic! See? We can GO and TELL everyone, everywhere that Jesus is alive and wants to be their friend forever!

Bible Paraphrase: “I am alive for ever and ever!” —Revelation 1:18, NIV

Text Truth: Jesus wants me to tell others He is alive.

Family Devotional

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
—Matthew 28:18-20

In our Bible story, Jesus told His friends to GO and TELL everyone, everywhere the good news that Jesus is alive. Who is alive? Jesus is alive!

“I am alive for ever and ever!” —Revelation 1:18, NIV

Jesus wants all of His friends to GO and TELL everyone, everywhere that Jesus is alive and wants to be their friend forever. So, with your family, get a piece of paper and make a list of people you can GO and TELL. Have each family member write down the name of someone they can tell about Jesus. And remember to print the name of each family member next to the name they write down.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, Thank You that Jesus is alive and wants to be (say each family member’s name) friend forever. Help us GO and TELL (read the list your family made) that Jesus is alive and wants to be their friend forever, too. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
