Rebekah Helps

Image
Genesis 24:15-20 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.” Our true story starts with a well! A well is a deep hole in the ground where people can go get water. When we want water, we go to the sink and turn on the faucet! But back in Bible times, people had to walk all the way to the well, lower a bucket into the well, fill it with water, and pull the heavy bucket back up. That’s what a girl named Rebekah did. One evening, Rebekah went to a well for water. When she got there, she saw a man at the well with ten camels. The man asked Rebekah if she would share her water with him. Rebekah was happy to help. This is the sign for “help.” Make the ASL sign for help. With your dominant hand, make a fist with your thumb up. Place that fist on the palm of your other hand and raise both hands together. And so, Rebekah drew out some water from the well and gave the man some to drink. But that’s not all Rebekah did. She looked for other ...

Timothy and Tabitha

1 Timothy 4:12; Acts 9:36-39 Our true story comes from a letter that our friend Paul wrote to his young friend Timothy. We can read Paul's letter in the Bible, where it is called First Timothy (1 Timothy). Our true story also comes from a part of the Bible called Acts, which is short for “The Acts of the Apostles.” An apostle is someone who is sent to teach people about Jesus. Our true story is about a woman named Tabitha. She loved God and followed Jesus! Tabitha was always helping people. One way she helped was by making clothes for people. Tabitha helped a lot of people by making clothes for them! Hooray for helping! Yes, God made Tabitha to help. Make the ASL sign for help. With your dominant hand, make a fist with your thumb up. Place that fist on the palm of your other hand and raise both hands together. Tabitha helped people by making clothes. But there are SO many different ways to help. There is another true story in the Bible about a young man named Timothy. Timothy didn’...

The Four Friends

Mark 2:1-12 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Mark. Mark loved Jesus and told people about Him so that they could know Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!” We begin with four friends who helped. This is the sign for help. The friends knew someone who needed help. His legs didn’t work, and he couldn’t walk. He needed their help because he had to be carried.  One day, Jesus came to their town! There are so many amazing things to know about Jesus. Jesus is God’s Son. Jesus is an amazing teacher. And Jesus can do things only He can do. A lot of people were excited and came to see Jesus that day. But they weren’t the only ones excited to see Jesus. When those four friends heard that Jesus was in town, they knew that Jesus could help the man who couldn’t walk. The four friends helped him by picking him up and carrying him to Jesus. It was probably hard work, but the four friends really wanted to help the man. When they got to the house where...

Luke 10:25-37 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!” This is an awesome story that Jesus told about helping others. We all need help sometimes, and the best thing is that God made us to HELP! Make the ASL sign for help. With your dominant hand, make a fist with your thumb up. Place that fist on the palm of your other hand and raise both hands together. God made me and you to help. Jesus sometimes taught people using special teaching stories called parables. This story Jesus told... . . .began with a man walking along the road.  Suddenly, some people came and hurt the man. Oh, no! The man had so many boo-boos. He needed help. Sometime later, a man came walking down the road. Maybe he will help the hurt man. Do you think he will stop and help? But he didn’t stop to help the hurt man. He just walked on by. Oh, no! But he wasn’t the only person that c...
