David and Jonathan Are Friends

1 Samuel 18:1-4

Our story comes from the Bible. It is found in the part of the Bible called 1 Samuel ("First Samuel"). It is the first of two books in the Bible named after Samuel.

David and Jonathan Are Friends

David had a very special friend named Jonathan.

Jonathan was the son of King Saul. When Jonathan met David, he loved him right away.

They became very good friends.

Jonathan cared about David and wanted to help him.

Jonathan made a special promise to David. He said, “I will always be your friend.”

Jonathan gave David his robe and his armor. He even gave David his sword and bow.

Jonathan shared what he had because he loved David.

David and Jonathan helped each other. They were kind and caring friends.

Jesus helps us see this clearly.

Jesus teaches us to love others, share with others, and be kind friends too.

Key Takeaway for Preschoolers

We can love and share with our friends.

Dear God,

Thank You for giving us friends. Help us to be kind, loving, and sharing. Teach us to love others like Jesus does. We love you, God.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Paraphrase: Jesus says, “Love each other the way I love you.”
