Jesus Heals the Official's Son

John 4:46-54


Our true story is found in a part of the Bible called the Gospel of John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus. And the word "Gospel" means "good news!"

David loved God very much.

One day, a father was very worried.

His son was very sick.

The father had heard about Jesus.

He believed that Jesus could help.

So he traveled to find Jesus.

When he found Jesus, he asked, "Please help my son."

Jesus looked at the father with love.

Then Jesus said, "Go home. Your son will live."

The father believed Jesus.

He trusted Jesus' words and started walking home.

While he was on the way, some servants came running to meet him.

They had wonderful news!

"Your son is well!" they said.

The father was so happy.

He learned that his son became well at the very time Jesus had spoken.

Jesus had healed the boy even though He was far away.

The father and his whole family believed in Jesus.

They knew that Jesus has God's power and that He cares for people.

Dear God,

Thank You for loving us. Thank You for Jesus, who hears our prayers and cares for us wherever we are. Help us trust Jesus and believe His words every day. Help us remember that You are always with us and that nothing is too hard for You. We love You, God.

Activities

These activities help preschoolers engage with the story through movement, crafts, music, and storytelling, making the lesson fun and memorable.


1. Walking in Faith

Objective: To help children remember that the official trusted Jesus and began his journey home before seeing that his son was healed.

Materials: Masking tape or floor markers to make a simple path

Activity: Create a short walking path across the room. One child at a time walks along the path while the teacher says, "The father trusted Jesus and walked home." At the end of the path, greet the child with the joyful message, "Your son is well!" Let every child have a turn.

Talk About It: "Did the father trust Jesus before he saw his son? How can we trust Jesus every day?"
 

2. Happy Hearts Craft

Objective: To remind children that Jesus brings hope and joy to families.

Materials: Heart-shaped construction paper, crayons or markers, stickers

Activity: Give each child a large paper heart to decorate. Inside the heart, help them draw a smiling child or family. Explain that the father was very happy because Jesus healed his son.

Talk About It: "How do you think the father felt when he heard his son was well? What makes you thankful to Jesus?"


3. "Jesus, I Trust You" Song (Musical Activity)

Tune: Row, Row, Row Your Boat (Public Domain)

Objective: To reinforce trusting Jesus and believing His words.

Materials: None

Activity: Teach the song and encourage children to gently sway from side to side or pretend to walk home like the official while singing.

Song Lyrics:

        Trust, trust, trust in Christ,
        Every single day.
        Jesus loves and cares for us,
        He will guide our way.

        Jesus keeps His promises,
        Strong and kind and true.
        I can always trust my Lord,
        He takes care of you.

Talk About It: "Why did the father trust Jesus? How can we trust Jesus too?"


4. Good News Messenger

Objective: To help children remember the joyful message that the official's son was healed.

Materials: None

Activity: Have one child pretend to be the father standing on one side of the room. Another child pretends to be a servant who runs carefully across the room with the message, "Your son is well!" Switch roles until every child has had an opportunity to deliver the good news. Celebrate together by clapping and thanking God for Jesus' love.

Talk About It: "What was the good news the servants shared? What good news do we have about Jesus?"
